The first day of the conference will be held in English.


Date: Tuesday, August 25th Venue: Kulturhuset, Stockholm.
Starting at 12:30. The afternoon concludes at 16:30.
In the evening, there will be a networking dinner at Café Opera.


Opening Session

SKR (Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions), the Swedish Transport Administration, and the City of Stockholm open the symposium and welcome participants to the first day of the National Cycling Conference 2026.


Welcome to Stockholm

Lars Strömgren, Vice mayor for Transport and Urban Environment, City of Stockholm, welcomes the participants to Stockholm and gives a brief introduction to the city as host of the conference.


Keynote: Marco te Brömmelstroet

Marco te Brömmelstroet, Professor of Urban Mobility Futures at the University of Amsterdam, opens the conference with an international perspective on mobility, urban life, and cycling. He explores how our views on mobility shape cities, and how cycling can drive broader transformation. 


Panel Discussion: Market, Policy & Knowledge

What is needed for cycling to play a larger role in cities? This panel brings together perspectives from European policy, research, business, industry, and innovation. The discussion explores how different actors can contribute to developing and strengthening the role of cycling.

Time for networking.


Two Cities in Action

Two European cities share experiences of working with cycling. They present what they have done, what has worked, the challenges they have faced, and what other cities can learn from their efforts.


Political Leadership Panel

A discussion with political leaders from European cities focusing on priorities, implementation, and political commitment. Drawing on experiences from cities that have worked strategically with cycling and the urban environment, the panel explores what it takes to turn ambition into real change.


Closing

The day concludes with a summary of key takeaways and a look ahead to the rest of the conference programme.
